Bridgewaters Bed and Breakfast
Another event took place in 1903. The vice president of the New Wabasha Lumber Company, John McLaughlin, decided to build a house that would allow him to entertain his business acquaintances in a sense of grace and quiet opulence that he felt they deserved. After his death a few years later, his three sons inherited the house. History is no stranger to the house, for during the Great Depression, the back building was converted to apartments renting for the “king’s ransom” of $ 7 a month. The newlyweds that occupied those apartments were claimed by the town locals to be living at “Honeymoon Haven”. History was to come full circle. Three generations later, in the summer of 1997, John’s great-great granddaughter Kelly McLaughlin returned to exchange her wedding vows on the beautiful front porch of the house that he built so many years before. In 1992, Bill and Carol Moore purchased this wonderful home that has become so much a part of Minnesota's rich history. Their aim was to rework and reconstruct this incredible Queen Anne Victorian back to its original state of beauty and elegance. In short, to bring back the feeling of serenity that was the order of the day almost 100 hundred years before. We believe that that Bill and Carol not only met their goal, but they far exceeded it...and we think you will too. In the spring of 2004, Bill and Debie Ball purchased the Bridgewaters from the Moores. After two years of carrying on Bill and Carol's tradition of incredible hospitality, the Bridgewaters again changed owners. Jeff and Sandra Franklin purchased the home in the Spring of 2006, and will no doubt offer the same exemplary service that the name Bridgewaters has become synonymous with. As you cross our doorway, we hope you will once again enter a world of comfort and simplicity that allows time to stand still. Bridgewaters not only takes its name from the many spans across the majestic river that has been such an integral part of Wabasha, Minnesota, but it’s also located just a short stroll from the “mighty Mississippi” itself. We think you’ll agree that our special corner of the world is a place where the beautiful scenery, the tranquil peace, and the gentle serenity of days gone by is with us once again.
